Summing up the last tour of the WAVLNGTH turns 1 series was UK based music producer & DJ Brassica, from the ‘Feel My Bicep’ camp. His music distills a storied musical past; capturing Balearic house, real electro, italo disco, new wave, psych, synth music, techno and rave nostalgia; without sounding consigned to any part of it.
From Brassica’s highly sought early releases on Dissident – through his DJ Mag Album of the Year nominated LP “Man is Deaf” on Civil Music – to his latest Acid, Breaks and Balmy House spanning EP on the Feel My Bicep Label – it’s Brassica’s promiscuous liaisons between noirish anxiety, naughty MIDI riffs, majestic orchestral moments, and elements that could have been caned by Belgian new beat and Italian Cosmic DJs that set his music apart and have earned him an enviable list of supporters including Bicep, DJ Harvey, Maceo Plex, Trevor Jackson, Henry Saiz, Andrew Weatherall and Erol Alkan amongst others.
Brassica’s Live performances are equally special, as BICEP said recently
“WE’VE BEEN BRASSICA’S BIGGEST FANS FOR YEARS. HIS RECENT LIVE SHOWS AT OUR PARTIES HAVE BEEN ABSOLUTE SCREAMERS, AS ANYONE WHO WENT CAN TESTIFY!”
And with good reason; when taking the stage – as he has alongside Egyptian Lover, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Dopplereffekt, Jeff Mills, and more – he hand crafts every set, writing reams of material specifically for every show. We were super ecstatic to have him do a guest mix for Boxout.FM just before his India shows. ‘Click here to Listen’ to the playback link of his set with one hour of synthful goodness.
