Community Playlist 038

Since we share a common love for music, Alexander Thomas is a familiar face I see when I’m out and about. The one thing I really admire about people is when they reach out despite not knowing you well enough. An encounter that really stood out for me was receiving a facebook message from him introducing me to an amazing talent who goes by the name of Gurpreet Chana. For those of you who don’t know Gurpreet, he is a musician based in Toronto with Indian roots, plays the Tabla and the Hang.  He is even prototyping a digital tabla rig and interface that could potentially offer a  whole new range of applications for electronic artists. Having spent some time in India for a few months, meeting people from the music industry and getting a feel of the music scene, I must say I am extremely thankful to Alex for the connect. Not only did I meet a talented musician but also formed a genuine friendship as we share similar ideologies and views on music. When I was making a list of a fresh batch of people to approach for the community playlist, this was one of the main reasons why I wished to reach out to him; because he made me discover new music! Keep em’ coming Alex and in the mean time listen to this beautiful playlist which is a mix of selections across genres.

“Here are a few amongst the songs that have carried me through this year. Some of them are more recent fixations, others have been with me for years. They might seem like a mishmash of sentiment, and they are to a degree, but they’re also a dedication to the people I love. My friends, my family and all the people I’ve had the honour of throwing down with.” – Alexander Thomas
